Symptom: a device scans worker badges and never shows a green "Cleared" or red "Not cleared" banner, for any worker, compliant or not.

Root cause, in nearly every real case: this device has never opened the site's own gate link — the one-time step that points a device at a specific site. Without it, the device isn't checking against anything, so it can't show a clearance result at all.

This is an easy trap because scanning a worker's own share link or QR code directly — which is also the normal, everyday, non-gate use of that page — never carries that site context. So a device can scan badges all day, correctly display each worker's record, and simply never have a reason to show a clearance banner.

The fix

  1. Go to the site's detail page and find its Gate link (Site settings).
  2. Open that link — or scan its printed QR — on the specific device that's doing the scanning.
  3. Re-scan a worker's badge. The banner should now appear.

How to tell the two states apart at a glance. When no site is configured on a device, the record page shows a small, low-emphasis line at the bottom: "Not checking against a site — open a site's gate link on this device to enable clearance checks." That's deliberately subtle rather than a colored error banner, since most visits to this page have nothing to do with a gate at all.
